My dear Sir,
I take the liberty in the name of our Mayor[3] and of the Venitian [sic] artists to express to you again our earnest desire to have your name illustrious as forming part of the Committee of Patronage for our next International Art Exhibition in Venice to be held in 1897.
Hoping you will grant us this highly esteemed favour, I beg to anticipate [p. 2] you our best thanks.
With kind regards believe me, my dear Sir,
yours faithfully
Prof. A. Fradeletto
Secretary of the Exhibition

Notes:
1. [January/July 1896]
JW did not appear on the Committee of Patronage on the official letter sent out later in 1896 (#05936). Early in the year he was unable to deal with such matters, since his wife was dying; see his apologies, which presumably arrived too late for his name to be added to the Committee, #05940.
2. Antonio Fradeletto
Antonio Fradeletto (1858-1930), literary historian, art critic and writer, radical politician, and general secretary of the Venice Biennale [more].
3. Mayor
Comte Filippo Grimani (1850-1921), Mayor of Venice, President of the Internation Art Exhibition of the City of Venice [more].
4. Paris
Although this was addressed to JW in Paris, he would have been in London at this time.
