Ma In answer to your kind and courteous letter I beg that you will present my most distinguished compliments to his Excellency the Syndico of Venice[3] and say that long absence from Paris, and much traveling, have prevented my writing in acknowledgement of the honour conferred upon me at the Exhibition[4] -

I am greatly anxious that his Excellency should know that I am highly sensible of this most flattering testimonial of sympathy coming to me from Venice the Beautiful - And I would further take this occasion to ask you to convey Also to the Committee my thanks & my appreciation to the Gentlemen of the Committee -
