Dear Mr Whistler,
The Frame maker[2] expresses his great regret that the frame was gilt in one piece. It can easily be put right I am glad to say & all the others will be correct. We understand that the size[,] pattern & colours of the frame are correct[.] We shall try to obtain a diminution of the [p. 2] price especially seeing there are 5 to make at one time.
Sarasate[3]. We are preparing a large work on 'The Music of the Modern World' with Messrs Appleton & Co of New York. Having seen the Sarasate here they express themselves very wishful to have it as one of their important illustrations.
Will you kindly let me know if we may have your permission to make a photogravure plate untouched of the picture for this purpose. It would come [p. 3] 12½ in high & would not be sold separately from the book which is a first class publication. Proof of course would be sent to you.
By this means the picture would be brought prominently before the best American public & thus help the chance of sale.
Your kind decision will oblige.
Also about the Lithographs for the notice of the Litho. Exhibition[4]
Yours vy truly
D. C. Thomson
