Dear Jim

I got your telegram^[2] this morning & answered it immediately in terms of press copy enclosed

As I told Mr Dicksee^[3] - & Mr Hanson^[4] on receipt of satisfactory policy covering all risks from time Picture^[5] leaves my house to the time it is returned to me - & if not returned making good its value to me I will despatch it -

Mr Dicksee wrote about having opened a line of £20,000^[6] & that he would write me up for £335 of it - but though that may be one way of doing the business it is not the usual way - I am insuring property every week and I get a [p. 2] separate Policy for each separate set or piece of property - though all may be going together in same vessel.

If Mr Dicksees insurers cannot or do not wish to take the trouble to make out a separate Policy - I cannot help it -

I have not been home yet having spent the last three days in Railway train going backwards & forwards & shall not be at home until Friday or Saturday

This relates to Nocturne: Grey and Gold - Chelsea Snow (YMSM 174) or possibly Nocturne: Blue and Silver - Bognor (YMSM 100), both of which Chapman had agreed to lend, respectively, to the 3rd Internationale Kunst-Austellung, Munich, 1888 and the Exposition, Galerie Durand-Ruel, Paris, 1888. However, some difficulty emerged over the insurance of the pictures while in transit (J. A. Chapman to JW, #00578). In the end, the matter was resolved and the pictures were insured at Lloyd's for £350 apiece (see J. A. Chapman to Dowdeswell & Dowdeswell, #00582).
