Dear Sir,
We have sent the three pictures 'Lady Meux[2],' 'The Fur Jacket[3],' & 'Venice[4]' to Rue Chaptal this day with directions to send them at once to the Salon Champ de Mars & advise you forthwith. M. Joyant[5] at the Boulevard will tell you [of] the arrival also.
You did not happen to [p. 2] mention you had Lady Meux's[6] consent otherwise we should not have troubled her 'ladyship'. Mr Mattersons[7] Sea piece will be ready on Tuesday or Wednesday & if you find this is not too late it will go off at once the moment Richards[8] can get it done.
Munich[9]. After much trouble we have found that for 1892 there are not any official agents in London for this exhibition. Each artist this year must pay his own expenses. Under these conditions do you think it is necessary to send. The cost for the ten pictures you require would be about £45 carriage & insurance [p. 3] Why not as one artist did last year (Lavery[10]) send them later after you have found out exactly & decidedly that the Govt will pay. There is no Bavarian Minister in London & the German Minister to whom amongst others we sent to today does not know any thing officially about it. From your letter we gather that you have had some direct communication in Paris with the Bavarian Govt. We leave this in your hands knowing that it can stand for a few days, until after the holidays, without hurt.
Catalogues. The 'collectors' are simply wild they cannot obtain copies of the Catalogue. We think this is the best thing that could [p. 4] happen to keep up the rarity & preciousness of the whole scheme. If however you think it better to have the 250 we can order them & doubtless sell them. The profit would mean about £7 to you, that is all.
Paris. Mr L. Huth[11] whom we have seen declines to send to Paris. It is to be feared the request would have [no] more effect from you. He says he will not pay the cleaning frame or the varnishing pictures. However he may come round.
Portraits. The Duke[12] telephoned yesterday asking an appointment for after Easter & no doubt the matter can be arranged in due time.
