March 20 1888.
Dear Mr Maus -
The only news I have at all had of my exhibition[2] with you gentlemen in Brussels, is first in the form of the bill which I enclose - that, in case you have paid it, I may protest, - and again the notice from my agent of the smashing of the frame of the large full length[3] - because of bad packing or neglect -
Beyond this, my dear Mr Maus, not a word - [p. 2] Neither extracts from the papers, nor even the Catalogue - though I understood you to say that it was coming -
Believe me meanwhile with many thanks, very faithfully
J. McNeill. Whistler
To
Octave Maus Esq.
Hon. Secretary

[Exhibition], Société des XX (Vingts), Brussels, 1888. JW showed eight works, including two oils, pastels and etchings. He also drew a sketch showing his desired arrangement of his pictures in the gallery (see JW to O. Maus, #09244). See, in addition, JW to Maus, #09245, #09237, #09242.
