Since writing yesterday I have heard from the Secretary[3] that they are sending over a Munich Artist[4] to London to negotiate ab[ou]t the loan of pictures[5] &c, So I have ventured to give him a note of introduction[6] to you - Here are some more papers in case any of the family want them & I [p. 2] can get as many more as are wanted.

5. pictures
This relates to the 3rd Internationale Kunst-Austellung, Munich, 1888 which opened in July. JW sent a large group of works - thirteen oils, twenty watercolours, seven pastels and thirty etchings. Amongst the oils was Arrangement in Black: La Dame au brodequin jaune - Portrait of Lady Archibald Campbell (YMSM 242). He was awarded a second-class medal by the exhibition committee.
6. note of introduction
Rodd seems to have sent the letter of introduction with a covering note a few days later (see J. R. Rodd to JW, #05210).
