LA SOCIÉTÉ DES BEAUX-ARTS.

GLASGOW: 227 WEST GEORGE STREET
PARIS: 6 PLACE D'ANVERS.

28th June 1892.

Dear Mr Whistler.

To please myself as I said I would never have lent my "Princesse[2]"[.] That it has pleased you as I said goes a long way to compensate me for the want of her companionship.

I am sorry you take the price so to heart. The poor fellow who wrote lines you refer to did it I think in quite good faith & thought he was doing well "mais qu'est ce que tout cela vous importe[3]"

The "Brodequin jaune[4]" I would like to have (as indeed anything from your master's hand) but malheureusement my capital is not equalled by my enthusiasm.

On consideration I would [p. 2] prefer to buy the picture right out & I could not afford to pay more than say £600. This sum I am willing to give. In any case I daresay you will forgive me if I have been too bold.

Regarding the Lithographs. I expected to have a lot more to order but things have dragged a little.

Those I want are - 15 in all. I have not Titles but describe them so that I think you will understand me.

Of the lady with bonnet (Ellen Terry[5]?) I want 6.

Of the Nude[6] Reading - girl
5

Of the figure[7] with drapery in the form of a Harp.
3.

of the female figure[8] draped examining a pot of which the position of one of the legs has been changed     1 (in all[9] 15)

Awaiting[10] the favour of hearing from you & with compliments to Mrs Whistler[11]

yours faithfully.

Alex Reid.

Send the lithos & I shall send you cheque on receipt.

A R.
