THE PENNSYLVANIA ACADEMY OF THE FINE ARTS.

EDWARD H. COATES PRESIDENT
HENRY WHELEN, JR. TREASURER
HARRISON S. MORRIS MANAGING DIRECTOR

PHILADELPHIA,

October 28, 1902.

James McNeill Whistler, Esq.,
71 Cheyne Walk, London.

My dear Mr. Whistler:-

I fear the letter of July 18th[2], which I ventured to entrust to Mrs Pennell[3] for posting to you, may have miscarried on account of your travels. Therefore, May I venture again to hope that you will feel inclined to indulge us with a part or all of your matchless Salon group for our Annual Exhibition which begins in January next?

Since I last had the honor of addressing you, the circular of this exhibition has [been] issued and it gives me pleasure to offer you a copy herewith, accompanied by some cards for the entry of works. Of course, you need have no part in arranging these as the simple signification to me that you will heed our appeal will fetch our London agent, James Bourlet[4], 17 Nassau Street, Middlesex Hospital, to whatever address you may name. He will undertake to relieve you of every detail and the pictures placed in his or our hands will have the utmost care until they are returned to your keeping.

In my earlier letter I ventured to recall to you the (p. 2) memorable night when you permitted us to hear those brilliant sentiments at Mrs Pennell's table. Since then we have travelled far and are again at home but we shall not soon forget that evening of mirth and wit. I trust it has not been forgotten by you and that you will allow me to offer you the sincere compliments of Mrs Morris[5] and of,

Yours very truly,

Harrison S. Morris
