NEW YORK OFFICES,

Jan 21st 1901.

My dear Mr Whistler

Permit me to send you this line as a means of introducing my esteemed friend Mr Wm A. Coffin[2] of New York, a well known landscapist and one of our foremost champions in the efforts that have been made to remove the duty on foreign works of art. He is now Director of the Pan American at Buffalo[3] & goes to Paris to secure the co-operation of our (p. 2)[4] distinguished men living abroad. He has no affiliations with the Club or its methods and I am sure you will find him a man Entirely in sympathy with your views. Trusting you will grant him an opportunity of explaining the objects of his Mission and with all good wishes, to you, my dear Mr Whistler, for the New Year,

believe me
Most Sincerely Yours

John B Cauldwell
