AMERICAN ARTISTS' CLUB.
BARER ST. 76.
March 10th 1888
Mr. James McNeil [sic] Whistler,
I am informed by the Central Committee for the International Art Exhibition about to be held here, that they have sent you a "personal invitation" to contribute to the said exhibition, which invitation, as I learn from Mr Abbey, has been duly received. On behalf of the American Committee appointed here for the purpose of arranging the American Department, I would [p. 2] therefore respectfully request you to inform me, whether you intend contributing to the Exhibition, and whether you will allow your works to be placed in the American Department, or whether you would prefer to give the Central Committee the disposal of the same?
Hoping soon to be honored by your favor
Yours very truly
President A. A. C.
