Cher ami
Claude Monet

Translation:
Dear friend
Having been in Paris for the last few days, I heard that you had arrived and that without any message to me[,] it is bad because you know the pleasure it gives me to see you.
I hope at least that you do not resent the fact that I left London without seeing you, I was held up at Sargent's and suddenly called home, and I very much regretted having to leave without being able to visit the Tower House. I also knew that you spent the summer in Touraine where you reaped a harvest of superb etchings which I look forward to seeing at the next opportunity. So give me your news and tell me if you are planning any kind of exhibition, in London. When in Paris one can think of nothing but the great exhibition in which I hope, you will figure triumphantly.
Please give my regards to Mrs Whistler and remember me to her
my best wishes to you
Claude Monet
