Dear Mr. Whistler:
When your letter[2] came I was about to write to you and send copies of the larger photograph which has been made of your etchings as they are shown at Buffalo[3]. Two of these copies differing in methods of finish [p. 2] will go to you by the mail which takes this letter and I hope that they will give a better account of the display than the little photograph was able to give.
It was a pleasure to me to arrange the exhibit and your expressed appreciation of the results is very gratifying.
From all sides the inevitable praise [p. 3] of the etchings comes to me and to-day I have word from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts telling of successful arrangements for the more representative display which I have promised to make at the next annual exhibition[4] of the Academy in Philadelphia from January [p. 4] to March. I will enclose a list of the etchings which I think would fairly represent the range of your work in etching, although many more could well be shown, and shall be glad of your approval or criticism of the selection. I am hoping that space enough will be allowed for an effective arrangement - Of course, all the prints will be shown in Whistler frames[5].
