Dear Mr. Whistler;
You have been much in evidence in two cities this side of the ocean during the last month. At our Metropolitan Museum, "The White Girl"[3] still holds her splendid supremacy. At the Grolier Club[4] the Haden[5] collection of your etchings has been shown, attracting the largest number of visitors ever known to attend one of our exhibitions. During the fortnight nearly two [p. 2] thousand friends of the members of the Club went to see your work, while the greater number of the two hundred and fifty resident members must have been at the Club House repeatedly.
At the same time in Boston - where "The Lady in a Fur Jacket"[6] adorns a prominent place in the Museum of Fine Arts, there was a representative exhibition of your etchings at the St. Botolph Club[7], arranged from my collection.
[p. 3] The catalogue which I send you will show how representative the exhibition was. The gallery was admirable for the purpose of effective grouping, and I am sure you would have approved the display.
From Freer[8] I have heard of you in a letter written as he was leaving Paris; and shall hope to hear from you directly before long - It is some time since you wrote.
[p. 4] Meanwhile I shall trust that all is going well with you and Mrs. Wistler[9]. To you both I send a hearty New Year greeting.
