Copy of letter from Messrs Thomas Laurie & Son
Fine Art Gallery
85 St Vincent Street, Glasgow
March 2 - 89.
Dear Sir, -
The picture[5] by Whistler exhibited by you in the Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts this year was, as you are aware, purchased by us for you at a sale in Dowell's Rooms, 18 George Street, Edinburgh, on 3rd April 1886.
The picture came from the collection of Mr G. B. Simpson[6] of Broughty Ferry, and was sold for him by Mr Dowell[7] on the above mentioned date. From enquiries we have made and letters in our possession we find that Mr Simpson bought the picture from Messrs Richardson & Company[8] Fine Art dealers, 43 Piccadilly London. W.
[p. 2] We are,
Yours faithfully
p. p. Thomas Lawrie & Son
J. M. M. Brown[9]
A. J. Kirkpatrick Esq.
