Dear Mr. Koopman -

I beg that you will present my compliments to the Committee[2], & thank them for their courteous thought of me, as one of the "International Jury".

It is however impossible for me to accept their flattering invitation as it is contrary to my wishes to take part in any official matter of the kind.

Pray then offer the gentlemen my regrets - with my full appreciation,

And believe me
very faithfully

J. McNeill Whistler
