Dear Leighton -
I trust that you will not forget that as You pointed out to me, you are "one of my flock" - Therefore Let me beg that this be not merely in name but that you will send me a proof of your interest and good will - Flatter us by letting us hang in the Society of British Artists upon the walls of our gallery a picture of yours this [autumn?] however small - that the Exhibition of the Society of British Artists[3] may recognizerejoice in the presence of by his work of their most distinguished member - and that the world at large may know feel that his connection with us is not a mere mockery -
I know that you are a busy man - and the duties of your own body house[4] exact from you your precious time - but as a result of your continued assiduity you produce much, and surely between now and November, can find the few hours that will give us the work that shall [p. 2] the paintings
