I received yours in Paris on my way through.

I wish to say no Bumboat^[3] has offered to come alongside - it [is?] I alone, of my own initiative, who hailed or wanted to hail a splendid frigate^[4] which would adorn and strengthen our fleet. -

[p. 2] I grieve you will have none of her. -

I do not think we can afford to waste any promising element of success in our Exhibition. -

I was out of pocket last year £150 - quite apart from rent rates & taxes which I pay to the tune of £8 a day. -

The others^[5] would have [p. 3] agreed to the proposal if you had done so. -

I am down South for ten days: - letters are always forwarded on from Brooks's Club - St. James's Street. S. W.
