Dear Mr Whistler

I have not written because there was nothing to write about the Knightsbridge show^[2] -

At the meeting^[3] last night - Gilbert ^[4]in [p. 2] the chair. We were brought to a stand still by being equally divided on the jury question

It is Gilbert's and Melville's^[5] idea that no pictures should [p. 3] be submitted. While we are all agreed that very few should be shown some of us feel that it would be better to alow artist[s] ^{who are not invited} to submit their work. We think some of the names on the Committee sufficient attraction.

We have only £500 to cover carriage, insurance [p. 4] etc:

The admiral^[6] seems quite willing to do his share and Howard^[7] shows considerable staying power

If you would send your views to the Friday meeting it would get us out of our difficulty
