Dear Mr Whistler:
Theodore Child[2] is going to Russia[3] soon and he writes me in great urgency that in order to carry out the programme arranged with you for his article on the Exhibition[4] he must have the photographs of your pictures before June 30. He also says that in any case where you have not satisfactory photographs and still possess the original he would like you to lend the original for a few weeks.
If you will send this material to my office 30 Fleet St. I will forward it to Child. Or if you prefer to send it to him direct, his address is 99, Avenue de Villiers, Paris.

Child planned to write a series of articles on Russian art for Harper's Monthly Magazine. They were published in July, August and December 1889.
4. article on the Exhibition
Child was also planning an article about American artists at the Paris Exposition Universelle for Harper's. Although the exhibition did not take place until the following year, Child wished to obtain some advance photographs of JW's works (see J. R. Osgood to JW, #02041, T. Child to JW, #00615). The works featured included Nocturne: Blue and Gold - Old Battersea Bridge (YMSM 140) and Variations in Flesh Colour and Green: The Balcony (YMSM 56).
