My dear Whistler
Here is my proposal for an Exhibition[2] of your Etchings &c here.
That it be held for at least a month dating from mid February 1890 - or thereabouts - exact date (not to be more than a fortnight earlier or later) to be fixed in the autumn.
Exhibition to consist of [p. 2] your new French etchings of which a fair proportion shall be unpublished ones - and of any drawings which you may decide to exhibit with them; the exhibits not to be less than sixty in number.
All works are to be for sale and we are to be entitled to a commission of 25% on all sales to private individuals & of 20% on all sales to the trade to whom you will also allow a discount of 20 per cent.
All duplicates which we sell are to be supplied by you as speedily as possible after the close of the Exhibition.
All sales are to be paid for [p. 3] as follows. Exhibition Exhibits half a month, half two months after close of same Exhibition - All copies supplied afterwards one month after delivery by you -
If there is a catalogue with your notes in, & for which a charge is made, profits of same to be divided -
We agree to spend £30 on the decoration of the room as you may suggest -
Kindly let me know if these terms suit you.
We might be able to give you the other big room as well for an [p. 4] Exhibition of Paintings by you if you thought well of it but that is a matter on which I could not speak with any certainty at present as our engagements for then are at present inchoate.
Enclosed is the check for £105 which settles the matter which has been on the stocks between so long - Kindly acknowledge its receipt.
Faithy yrs
