Enclosed is check for £100 in full for all claims against us for printing the Venice Etchings to date - From now it is agreed that you will print them whenever required for five 'guineas' a set of twelve, you providing the paper extra help &c -
I am reminded that there is a sum to deduct [p. 2] for the printing press but this perhaps it will be as well to keep separate & you will settle it with Mr Brown.
Fai[thfu]lly yours -
Marcus B Huish
The man is to wait on you respecting the decoration on Saturday morning at 11 -
[p. 3] 'Now Huish! now my dear Huish! - you know you said Guineas - You proposed that the Board should send me a cheque for a hundred guineas and I at once agreed - gratefully as is my wont -
I am sure that the hundred pounds that reached me is only a mistake -'
2. printing the Venice Etchings
For some months, a dispute had lingered between Huish and JW over how much JW should be paid for printing Mr Whistler's Etchings of Venice, 1880 (the first 'Venice Set') (K. 183-189, 191-195). (excat 5). See M. B. Huish to JW, #01139, #01129, #01143, #01146; E. G. Brown to JW, #01140; JW to M. B.
