THE FINE ART SOCIETY,
148, NEW BOND ST. W.
London

27th Octr 1880

Dear Whistler

I have obtained you fifty pounds which I send you in the same way as the last £50 on your promise that by this day [next] week you or your etchings[2] will be in London - and with us

Our exhibition[3] opens on Saturday week the 30th & we shall have all the press [p. 2] here - & we must have specimens to show by then -

We could not send the money as you wished as you did not state who were the Agents in London & we could not find them out - so you will have [p. 3] to get it from Blumenthals again - We could not help it - You must do your best to get it in Gold -

In great haste -
Yours fai[thfu]lly

Marcus B Huish

Notes:

1.  Huish
Marcus Bourne Huish (1843 - d.1921), barrister, writer and art dealer, Director of the Fine Art Society [more]. He had already sent JW £50 on 21 October 1880 (#01114).

2.  etchings
JW's Etchings of Venice were exhibited at the Fine Art Society, London, in December 1880, to mark the publication of Mr Whistler's Etchings of Venice, 1880 (the first 'Venice Set') (K. 183-189, 191-195). (excat 5).

3.  exhibition
The exhibition of the work of the 'twelve greatest living etchers'. Huish had recently described it to JW, in his letter of 19 October (#01110). JW did not return in time to participate.
