This may date from after May 1863 when Symphony in White, No. I: The White Girl (YMSM 38), was a succés de scandale at the Salon des Refusés in Paris and was praised by Paul Mantz (1821-1895), art critic [more], and others, but before August or September 1863 when JW wrote again to O'Leary (see #09333). However, it could date from after May 1860, when At the Piano (YMSM 24) was a success, or after May 1865, when Symphony in White, No. 2: The Little White Girl (YMSM 52) and Harmony in Green and Rose: The Music Room (YMSM 34) were well reviewed at the Royal Academy.
