THE ROYAL SOCIETY OF [LION[3]] BRITISH ARTISTES [sic],

Suffolk Street Pall Mall,
London, -

Dec. 1887.

I write on the official sheet O' dear most respectful' one because I am in love with the look of it! -

Isn't it really brilliant and fascinating as a picture! and my little red Lion - isn't he splendid, and well placed? -

What's the use? -

All right about the Manchester letter[4], I will write - Of course I can't go - All right about everything -

Notes:

1.  [10/24 December 1887?]
Dated by headed notepaper, first used about this date (see for example, JW to H. H. Cauty, 12 December 1887, #05315 and #13107).

2.  Mortimer Luddington Menpes
Mortimer Luddington Menpes (1860-1938), artist [more].

3.   Lion
The typescript copy here presumably indicates the new rectangular logo of the Royal Society of British Artists, designed by JW, incorporating a crowned lion and initials 'RBA'.

4.  Manchester letter
This may have related to the Royal Jubilee Exhibition, Manchester, 1887.
