21, CHEYNE WALK,
CHELSEA.
My dear Fred -
We never see each other - and I am sorry for it - You have chosen the country, which, you know, is to me inaccessible - But why, when you come to town, which now and then you must do for fresh air, - why on those occasions do you not look me up? -
Now of course I want you to do something! -
First I must tell you that I have been greatly pleased to hear through Joe Wallace[3] that you are always fond of the little Trouville[4] Nocturne, or rather Crepuscule - Well, I long to see it again - I want you to lend it to me, that I may see that it is in perfect condition - and then I want you to let me have it framed in one of my newly composed frames. They are very beautiful - and your picture will gain five times in stateliness - as I am happy to know it has gained at least ten times in value - The frame will cost you very little - and then I want the picture for an exhibition I am to have this spring - at Goupil's[5] - in March -
Write me a line and say that all this shall be. I am off to Paris meanwhile in a day or two - You have heard all about the Luxembourg[6], I daresay.
With very best wishes to yourself and Mrs. Jameson[7],
Always, my dear Fred, yours sincerely,
