This is the private view card for 50 Etchings and Drypoints (Venice Second Series), H. Wunderlich and Co., New York, 1883; the card, and indeed the exhibition decor in yellow and white was based on that of Mr Whistler's Etchings, The Fine Art Society, London, 1883. The New York Mail and Express commented: 'The walls covered with white felt, the white frames of the etchings, the yellow base and moulding, the yellow plush seats and the little yellow and white chairs and tables and other furniture
the yellow tiles fireplace and the yellow Chinese vases
and finally the strip of yellow material stuck up under the ceiling with the artist's queer mark upon it ... quite throw the etchings themselves into the shade.' 24 October 1883; see also MacDonald, Margaret F., Palaces in the Night Whistler in Venice, Aldershot, 2001.
