Identity:

James Torrance was a Glasgow born portrait painter and illustrator.

Life:

James Caw particularly noted his portrayals of women and children. He was also an accomplished illustrator in black and white and his illustrated work includes Scottish Fairy and Folk Tales, edited by George Douglas (1893). In 1898 he was invited to exhibit with the International Society of Sculptors, Painters and Gravers when JW was President.
