Identity:

Charles Henry Rundell was a fellow cadet with Whistler at the United States Military Acedmy at West Point.

Life:

A fellow student of JW's at West Point, Charles Henry Rundell joined the U.S Army after his graduation in 1852. After seven years of frontier duties between 1853 and 1860 he was dismissed from the army in 1861, at the start of the American Civil War, having risen to the rank of First Lieutenant. He served as an aide de camp for the Confederate States during the war with the rank of Captain. Rundell is mentioned in a 1863 letter from Anna Matilda Whisler to Deborah Delano Haden asking that he be remembered to JW (#06521). He died in Peru 1864 aged 34.
