Rt. Hon. Sir Henry Enfield Roscoe was a chemist, MP and collector.
Life:
Roscoe was Professor of Chemistry at Victoria University, Manchester from 1857 to 1887 and Chief Examiner in chemistry at the Science and Art department, South Kensington until 1885 when he was elected a Liberal MP for South Manchester. He held many honorary positions: President of the British Association (Manchester) in 1887; President of the Chemical Society 1882 and Vice-Chancellor of the University of London from 1896 to 1902.
