Identity:

George T. Oldfield of Trellis Cottage, Ealing was listed in 1881 living with his wife, Sarah F Oldfield, who was born in Guildford and was then 35. They had two sons and two daughters. There is some doubt of his date of birth. His age at death was given as 65.

Life:

He was a Captain in the 4th Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers. Oldfield was listed in 1881 as a retired Captain of the Royal London Militia. He was also Secretary of the Eton and Harrow Club, St James Street, London.

He was Secretary of The Arts Club from 1869-1878; Whistler was a member (when he remembered to pay his dues).
