Identity:

Eugène Napoleon Nicolas Bernadotte, the Prince of Sweden and Norway, was the son of Bernadotte, King of Sweden (1829-1907) and Sophia Wilhelmina Mariana von Nassau.

Life:

In April 1896 JW was in correspondence with Prince Eugene's secretary C. R. Orshabe over the Prince's proposed visit to JW in London (#09279). The Prince was again in correspondence with JW in December 1896, encouraging him to lend his 'Dame en blanc' for exhibition at Sweden's 1897 national exhibition, JW having apparently spoken encouragingly with the painter Anders Leonard Zorn on the matter (#01057). However, neither Symphony in White, No. I: The White Girl (YMSM 38) nor Symphony in White, No. 2: The Little White Girl (YMSM 52) appear to have been shown.
