Identity:

Herbert Menzies Marshall was an architect, topographical painter and watercolourist.

Life:

He produced a number of series of topographical watercolours such as 'The Scenery of London,' and 'Cathedral Cities of France.' He was also a frequent exhibitor at the Old Watercolour Society, the Royal Academy and elsewhere. He is referred to in JW's correspondence in 1895 (#01312, #01325, #03620) when he held a successful exhibition at the Fine Art Society round about the time of Mr Whistler's Lithographs, The Fine Art Society, London, 1895.
