Edith Holman Hunt, née Waugh, married her brother-in-law, the artist William Holman Hunt in 1875. The marriage took place in Switzerland as it was illegal in Britain. In 1881 they were living at 2 Warwick Gardens, London, with their daughter Gladys M. (aged 4, born in Jerusalem) and son Hilary L. (aged 1), two nurses, a housemaid and a cook.
Her sister Fanny was Holman Hunt's first wife and her sister Alice married the sculptor Thomas Woolner.
