Samuel John Hodson was a painter and lithographer.

Life:

Hodson, a landscape and architectural painter, studied at the Royal Academy Schools. He also worked for a time as a colour lithographer for the Graphic. He was an active exhibitor, showing in London at the Royal Academy, Royal Society of Painters in Water Colours, Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Fine Art Society and the Society of British Artists, the latter society which elected JW its President in 1886, as well as at the Royal Society of Artists in Birmingham, Royal Cambrian Society, Leicester Gallery, Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool and Manchester City Art Gallery. In 1881 he became a member of the Society of British Artists, a society which elected JW its President in 1886. He was also elected an associate of the Royal Society of Painters in Water Colours in 1882, becoming a full member in 1890.
