Henri Gervex was an artist.

Life:

Gervex was active in exhibiting between 1893 and 1907, showing at the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of Portrait Painters.

JW made reference to Gervex in a number of letters dating from 1890 concerning an exhibition of French artists in London to which JW thought he would be invited (#12789, #08144, #05582). JW described Gervex to Alfred Stevens in this year as 'a charming fellow who dislikes writing, very serious about himself and often very careless in his dealings with others' (#05581).
