Alfred William Finch was a Belgian painter and etcher, born of British parents.

Finch, who specialised in landscape and figure painting, was active in exhibiting between 1886 and 1909. He showed at the London Salon and the Royal Society of British Artists which elected JW its President in 1886. Finch, who was friends with James Ensor and Jan Toorop, met JW in Britain, and invited him to exhibit with Les XX in Ostend. In March 1891 Finch wrote to JW asking him about a society he intended to set up along similar lines to the Les XX (#01097). However, the International Society of Sculptors, Painters and Gravers, of which JW became President, was not formed until 1897-98.
