Identity:
Louis-Remy-Eugène Desjobert was a landscape painter.
Life:
Desjobert studied under Jolivard and d'Aligny, becoming a regular exhibitor at the Salon between 1842 and 1863. In 1855 he was awarded a third class medal and in 1861 a second class. In 1863 he received the Légion d'honneur, an honour bestowed on JW in 1892.
In July 1863 Fantin-Latour spoke critically of Desjobert in a letter to JW as one of those entrenched in the academic system, showing little desire for progress and innovation (#01078).
