John Britton Cauldwell was a rich New York art connoiseur.


As Director-in-chief of the US Department of Fine Arts at the Paris Exposition Universelle 1900 from 1899-1901, Cauldwell was responsible for projecting the idea of an American school of art. He was in touch with JWconcerning loans for the exhibition and the medals awarded to JW for his paintings and etchings (see #04422).
