John W. Beck was a painter of landscapes.
Life:
John W. Beck was appointed as a drawing master at Mussoorie School in India in 1861.
He was a Member of the consultative committee of the New Gallery in 1888. Beck exhibited between 1879 and 1892 at the Grosvenor Gallery and the New Gallery. He was also Secretary of the Grosvenor Gallery for a period. It was in his capacity as Secretary and exhibition organiser that he was in contact with Whistler.
